Are you as excited about 2020 as we are?

If you’re ready to bring your online products to the people who need what you have to offer, these 5 simple steps will help you build your audience before launching your online product.

After creating, developing and producing empowering online courses for our clients, we’ve learned a few things about what it takes to succeed in this very competitive and flooded market. If you’ve been thinking about creating an online course because you have something amazing to share with others, take these 5 simple steps before you develop your online course.

1.   Do Your Research!

One of the biggest mistakes people make is they start by developing content for a course without exploring what’s already on the market and readily available. You’ll want to see who is already doing what you want to do, how they are doing it, and how you can provide your knowledge or skill set in a way that blows the competition away! Spending just a few hours searching the web can give you a tremendous amount of insight about what’s already out there and what’s not that needs to be.

2.   Know Your Value.

It’s not enough to know what you teach – you have to know the value of your knowledge in regards to those you wish to offer it to. How is what you offer unique, more valuable or needed in the online world? What target audience would most benefit from what you have to teach? How do you know that what you teach is needed? Remember, the key to a successful (and profitable) online course is teaching people how to feel, be, do or have. So get very clear about what shift you offer your target audience. The one thing we know for sure is people aren’t looking to learn – they are looking to change or improve something in their lives.

3.   Grow Your Virtual Audience.

Before you even think about creating an online course, you need to create an audience who is interested in you and what you share. Start by using social media to engage and inspire your target audience. Create compelling images and content on a regular basis and share, share, share. Some people worry that they’ll share all their golden nuggets so they hold back in offering their best. Don’t make this mistake. Show your audience what you know and then lead them to how knowing more is even better! We recommend creating a simple schedule so you’ll be posting regularly. This is one of the best ways to learn more about your target audience – and it’s free!

4.   Promote Yourself!

Whether online or in person, share what you offer with others. Talk about what you want to teach so you know what’s really needed by your target audience. Host a free webinar or a local workshop (libraries are great for this) so you can share great content and discover what people really want. This information will be invaluable in creating and developing the content for your online course.

5.   Get Connected.

Who compliments your skills and knowledge? Who would be willing to share what you know with their followers? Just connecting with others in your field can open up a lot of untapped opportunities — and you’ll make some new professional friends! Use this time to create blogs for social media and consider sharing them with online publishers who are in alignment with what you do.
